![]() | Walter Willeys Shop, Park Road, Elland One of my favourite photographs passed down through the family is this one which belonged to my grandmother Connie Darwin. Her uncle Walter Willey and his wife Charlotte owned a shop in Elland, Halifax, Yorkshire. My grandmother used to tell us how, as a young girl in the 1920's she visited here often to see her cousin Gaye. Obviously milking poor old Walter for all the sweets the could! After a bit of searching I have found the exact location of the shop, which is now part of the car park of the Barge & Barrel Pub. | 14 Jul 2020
![]() | Park Road, Elland, Halifax At the bottom of this photo you can see Walter Willeys shop. The Old Bus carcass in the yard was used as a seating area for the serving of refreshments and snacks. This was originally a black and white photo which I have enhanced and coloured. | 14 Jul 2020

![]() | The Grove Maternity Hospital, Barton On Sea The Barton On Sea Maternity Hospital, (Previously known as The Barton On Sea Materinity Home) was located on Grove Road Barton on Sea, Hampshire, England. Digging around in a box of old photographs I came across this old photograph that I took myself many years ago. I was born here and my mother had heard that it was about to be closed for good so we went there so she could show me where I was born. This is the only photo I have and I've never seen another so maybe this will be a useful find for someone. The photograph was taken sometime in the early1980's. The car in the photograph is my old Singer Gazelle which was pretty much on it's last legs at the time, bellowing out black smoke wherever we went! | 7 Jul 2020

![]() | A Country Tragedy - The Death Of Samuel Crumpler The story of my 4th Great Grandfather Samuel Crumpler who died in Lytchett Matravers in 1849 after being gored by his bull. | 17 Jul 2020
Visit of Hebden Bridge Band,Todmorden & District News, 29th Jun 1934 The visit of the Hebden Bridge Band always provides one of the most popular attractions of the open air concert season at Centre Vale Park, Todmorden, and it was unfortunate that the weather last Sunday did not behave more kindly towards this well-known combination. Both in the afternoon and evening the conditions were cold and there were a few showers, with the result that there was only a moderate attendance. Under the direction of Mr. Sam Townend, the band contributed two well balanced programmes in a style that made an instant appeal. Ernest Darwin was my grandmother Connnie's second husband and we grew up with him as our "grandad". He was an accomplished musician who played at some point for most of the big Yorkshire Brass Bands before moving to Bournemouth shortly after WWII. | 14 Jul 2020 |
